I recently climbed Half Dome in Yosemite National Park. As with most of my summit hikes, I spent very little time at the top. Once I summit, I’ve obtained my goal and want to climb down. It’s beautiful at the top, but it’s also a little boring. Since I summited this last hike alone it gave me time to think. I wonder if that’s what happens to some famous people. Since I wouldn’t know from experience, I can only guess that perhaps the effort that it took to achieve is actually more rewarding than the achievement itself. Maybe that’s why so many of the famous end up overdosing or committing suicide. Perhaps there is nothing left for them to accomplish and life has become dull? Maybe there is nothing left for them to climb.
