My friend was just lamenting about the LA Times laying off so many talented people. Quite frankly, I’m not sad. I am a journalism major, but have seldom, in all these years, seen someone be truly objective in their reporting. Because I’ve been taught to be objective, I’ve cringed, waaaaay more times than I’ve said, ’Gee, that was an impartial story.’ Ok digressing. I’m not sorry about LA Times reporters leaving although I never celebrate people being out of work. But here’s my point.
Every time a major institution crumbles, people are sad. Which is ok. It’s a form of mourning. However as survivalists, we should also be asking, ‘how do I capitalize on the shuffling of the deck? Just be ready for reshuffling. It’s at that time where most of the opportunities will become available. We’ve never advanced as a society without something from the past moving aside to let it advance. Embrace the change. Detach from the mourning and analyze ‘what’s in it for me?’ Those are the people who’ll win. You do want to win, don’t you?
