My thoughts shift to Jerry Tarkanian, the Fresno State basketball coach who needed a handler by his side at all times so that he didn’t violate NCAA rules. Why my unshaved legs lead me to the coach is beyond me, however, I now realize that when I have a super-heavy, eclectic and important week of work, I need to hire someone to check my fresh. Thankfully, I was on the ‘home’ side at the football game where nobody knew me. We sat on that side because there was more shade there. If you’re from the Central Valley you understand the logic. Here, the ‘visitor’s’ side alwaysfaces the setting sun and consequently the heat is unbearable. Therefore, we knew NO ONE who could see my legs and free-style shirt. I am torn, but now I realize that there is an expense for that.
It’s Friday night. I’m at an 'away' football game with my husband watching our player. It’s football, which seems to go on forever. A bit bored, I put on my reading glasses and start sorting through my emails. After all, it’s been an exceptionally busy week, which I love, but the tabled emails have become unruly. Then, for some unknown reason I look down, away from my phone and I notice my legs. They’re awful. I gasp and my husband notices and looks at me inquiringly. I whisper, ‘Look at my legs, oh my gosh, how long have they looked like that?’ He looks and, like any good husband, snaps a picture with his phone. I know this is in-case he needs a retaliatory photo somewhere down the road. My legs have not been shaved for how long? I do not know. And I then wonder, ‘what am I wearing?’ I’m afraid to look. Then. ‘Oh, I’m not wearing a bra!’ Then, ‘Did I brush my teeth?’ Yes. THANK THE LORD that at least I did that.
