Trumping Everyone

9/1/2015

Despite of what you think of him, Donald Trump has caught our attention.  We have become so careful in what we can and cannot say, that when someone comes along and says whatever he wants, with no mindfulness of how the public will react, it’s startling.  We’re not used to this blatant disregard for cultural norms.  We have become so verbally stifled and yet didn’t realize how thirsty we were for unfilteredness until we got a cold glass of water.

You may not like what he says.  It may offend you or cause you to gasp.  But it’s so refreshing to see someone break the chains of Political Correctness in an intentional and deliberate way.  I think most of us thought when he entered the race it was ridiculous.  Then he started spouting off controversial opinions and most thought he was done for.  Then, corporations began dropping him from their contracts and most of us thought he would back down.  But he doesn’t back down.  He pushes forward in his crass and audacious way.

And the media, every last one of them, liberal and conservative leaning don’t know what to do.  The public is responding to un-conventionalism and it’s confusing those who are only supposed to report the news.  They are stuck in the rut of following our cultural rules and continue to predict the Demise of The Donald.  Yet, at every turn they’re proven wrong.  They would do better to just report and keep their opinions to themselves because they are the ones looking silly now.  Trump is looking less silly all the time.

Will he make it to the White House?  Who knows?  We’re in unchartered territory.  Clearly, the media and pollsters haven’t a clue.

Imagine what it would be like to be at a place where huge institutions can throw things at you because they don’t like what you’re saying and instead of bringing your demise, it actually increases your popularity.   Imagine not caring one whit what others say or do about you.  Imagine running for office without needing to raise money whatsoever.  There is no one pulling his strings.  Pretty flipping interesting to watch this phenomena unfold.   Thank you, Mr. Trump for reminding us that individuality still exists.  Whatever happens, it’s already been a pleasure to watch.  Thank you for disrupting what would have been a dull and predictably grueling political process.

Random thoughts appear out of nowhere.  Here is where I place them, not knowing what else to do with them as they tend to desperately want out of my head.
